Should multiple accounts be policed?
"Everyday we take the Massive daily posts and bring them to Dragoon discussions. We would like to thank Massively for their original content."
Pirates of the Burning Sea recently amended their in-game rules to reflect an official stance on the practice of "alt-flipping," a tactic used by players with multiple accounts to manipulate the game's Conquest system. In a nutshell, Flying Lab devs have labeled certain uses of the tactic as griefing and stated that it will be policed as such (including possible bans).
Interestingly, Flying Lab also goes out of their way to state they have no problem with multiple accounts per se, saying that in most cases they're a perfectly acceptable gameplay tactic. This seemingly opens up a can of worms over what is considered legitimate and/or acceptable gameplay, particularly when the game's design intentionally features a "cutthroat, competitive [...] system that drives players to find any edge they can get over the opposing forces."
Dual-boxing is nothing new in MMORPGs of course, and games like EVE Online even advertise it and run discount promotions for alt accounts. What about you, Massively readers? Do you dual-box, and more importantly, do you feel alt accounts should be policed?

Hard to say really, I really am unsure. On the one hand if they choose to pay for it, then so be it, but on the other hand it does take advantage of the system.
I think however that every account is effectively "paid for". I don't know if it's applicable to all circumstances, but I would rather keep issues one account at a time. In other words, what happens on account A, has nothing to do with account B.
Once again though, depends on the circumstances.

I have played games with multiple accounts before, but only for good use, as long as it goes well with the rules of the game, i don't see why it should be Wong.

I don't get the grief about it.
If a person can pay for multiple accounts and juggle in game characters by ALT tabbing from one to the other, and is being OPEN about it, then so be it. I see no crime.
As an advantage, again I beg to differ as it is similar or more likely worse than having your brother/brothers playing on another account/accounts in the next room,
which provides much better unison and coordination without having to ALT tab between characters and leaving your other "bots" in limbo.
People who "juggle" between characters and are efficient at it should be admired for their multitasking skills, not stigmatized as "cheaters",
unless they are doing it secretly in detriment to their coplayers in specific situations such as tournaments or PvP matches.
I don't think they would go far anyway, as most people are not stupid, and sooner or later someone will notice that something is aloof.
Also if it's done out in the open devs should be thankfull, as these people are paying for multiple accounts and being their best customers.
As I say about other forbidden so called "catastrophic" practices: Legalize it, don't critisize it!
Then you can set rules and boundaries, and keep it in check. Otherwise, many people will always try to work around your system of control, as it poses a nice challenge for these types.
Once again I fear the dev PC brigade is buckling to moaners, trying to bring a surreal balance that can exist only in virtual games and their twisted minds,
making them more and more boring with their sanitized obsession about "fairness".
