Stop talking shit until your team wins, you didn't even make the World Cup two years ago, and that's easier.
TH
Stop underestimating Greeks in sports (we invented the the whole idea of sports anyway),cause time and again, across many events lately,we have shown that we can kick arrogant ass all over the field.
Unless you are suggesting that our 2004 victory was a fluke (a very shaky and ludicrous thought), stop being so nearsighted.
We didn't make the world cup cause of f***ing Greek slackness after a big win (we glorify our heroes into laziness instead of asking for more),and funding problems cause officials thought that pro players would bust their asses for the greek idea only, resulting in substandard practice sessions where few players showed up.There where also rumors that the players had not yet received promised bonuses for 2004 triumph (except Rehagell). When the world cup came they where just not ready and not motivated enough to bring results.
A prime example of our slacking is our 2nd place in the last basketball world cup. After we OWNED the american "cream" team,we just slacked off and lost to friggin Argentina.Next day I was browsing the american sports sites to read comments, and all I saw was cry baby excuses that, this star player was missing, the other didn't have a good day, another was having a hangover cause of the coke and alcohol he consumed the previous night and numerous other piss pants excuses.NOT ONE of them said that we where the better team, had more cohesion, better team play, better strategy, better defense etc..And why should they, cause afterwards they would have to explain how can a team that all players' combined cost as much as only one of their piss ass arrogant NBA stars mopped the floor with them.
You might have some salvos to fire at greek football statistics(I have many too, that is why I have given up on it),but beware as if we put our minds to it, we are as good as any other team out there to win the cup.
Excuse the smack talk on previous post.
Peace, and love to you.
And again, may the best team win!

Inventing something doesn't make you good at it
To be frank your victory in 2004 was rather impressive but i cant help but think it was anything more than a good run of results, you beat Portugal (x2), France & Czech Republic in the Tournament by no means are they weak teams but i don't think it will be repeated.

I didn't I basically said, stop saying your great till you win
I for one very much enjoyed the progress of the Greek national side four years ago. NOW I UNDERSTIMATE, I don't think they can win the tournament. However, the group is tough, but not as hard as what Romania will have. If Greece work hard, then they will get through, any team is capable.
Oh well, we will know at least some insight by the end of this evening.

No question there, we are good at sports, look at the last olympics.Compare our population to medal ratio with other countries, and you will get your answer.
At least you confirm that our 2004 win was impressive,ty for that.
You (football heads) did not mention anything about our basketball track record , where we have one of the best schools,IMAO, internationally.
GREEKS RULE IN BASKETBALL.
A much more cerebral game in my view, very fast, very rewarding to watch, where you need brains in harmony with strength and stamina to prevail (I know this first hand,I still throw a couple of hoops when I get the chance).Football, imho,is just a bunch of goat hearders kicking a friggin bloated piece of skin around an excessivelly large area for 90 mins, in hope to deliver a miniscule number of good moments to their fans that watch patiently in the stands for that glorius single moment.Very overrated sport,in my view .Sorry for sounding harsh and bigotted,I have my reasons not to like football.I get alot of flak from my footballer greek friends about this too,but I don't care.
You see it just gets to me that,in Greece, so much money and effort falls into football(madness), leaving out a much more promising sport that has already given us repeated victories on a much larger scale, since 1984,in that epic match where we beat the very powerfull then Soviet team by a hair in the european final.

Re: Dragoons Euro 2008 Fantasy Football
The most likely reason that we are not talking about baskteball is that this thread is about football
what's that now rider 5-0 to me?
also in England we don't really care for Basketball its not a main stream sport here its Football, Rugby, Cricket (yawn) and motor sports mainly.

To be honest, now that you step on middle ground, I will personally be gratefull if we get to the semis.I am not being negative, despite my dislike for football I want us to keep a good name in a sport I know most Greeks drool and piss in their pants in joy when we get a nice result in these great events. To hold our ground in a sense, and show to all that the 2004 triumph was not a fluke.

Don't be so hasty to win a forum match point.I was bringing your attention to our propensity to do well at sports in general, after you said that inventing them does not make one good at them.I am not off topic when I present arguments to promote our sportsmanship history.
so its like 4-1 now in your favour.
The most likely reason you do not talk about basketball is because you do not have a clue about it!
he,he looks like 4-2.
Also, we have a saying in my country, about the fox(British) calling the pots(basketball) ornaments because they are to high for her to reach!
uhm, now its 4-3 i am afraid.
Keep this up Mattku and,you never know, I might catch up.
Edit: did you have to mention cricket of all sports,I mean does anybody play that game apart the Brits and Hindu's.Oh,yeah the pakis play it too, lol, hoorah for cricket.
you lost another point just for mentioning that forsaken game

Re: Dragoons Euro 2008 Fantasy Football
I think you need to scrub your points off to board mr.rider, doing well is not good enough to earn respect and recognition in the world of sport my friend being consistently the best is what earns you that right and im afraid Greece (and england) don't fall in that category.
Im not sure as to why we are not that big on basketball but i never took to it.

Again I will mention basketball ,we are consistently good at it,and nobody can claim to be the best in any team sport, for example:arrogant american basketball when they call their national championship "world championship", is same as spitting in the face of the rest of the world, that is NOT sportsmanship. And don't be so hard on your country, we Greeks have great respect(unlike you) for english football style.
That's another point, lol, 4-5 I win.
You should have stopped when you where ahead Mr.Mattku.

Have you tried it,if not you are missing much (I know very well that you like
dynamic sports).
I have played football as a kid,it's not that bad when you play it,but watching it on TV makes me yawn(I will agree that seeing it live is a different story, mainly cause of the sheer size). When I started playing basketball I saw the light. It is the fastest and most rewarding, even when you watch,as you get alot of suspense until the last second literally. Also it is much more a team sport as everyone in the court counts. The most interseting aspect is that a game can go both ways at any time, even 20 point differences have been overturned in mere minutes.
Edit:I will refrain from mentioning basketball on this thread again.
Any more posts in this thread from me will be strictly football related.

Re: Dragoons Euro 2008 Fantasy Football
Who said we underestimate the greek league?
Tbh there is good reason, how many champions league champions have Greece had the past years, and how many of your best players play in Greece?
Regardless, Greece won Euro 2004, but with poor recent performances against the likes of Andora, and Hungary, I just cannot see the results coming. Greece WERE good, and after seeing them today, they look edgy, a top rated side like Spain or Holland will tear that defence apart.

Tonight they just didnt look like they even wanted to win wtf was all that passing along be back 3 about?! i guessed at first they were trying to draw the sweed's out of their half but it didn't work at all then they just hoofed it up the pitch and out of play.
Sorry Rider but going on tonight performance Greece arnt going anywhere but out of the competition, maybe they will pick up against Russia but i doubt they will survive the rest of their group.

Re: Dragoons Euro 2008 Fantasy Football
All I can say is that I feel ashamed for that display of incopetence, and it justifies the reason I don't follow greek football.
It looked like they didn't want to play, at all. They behaved like they where on a training session.I watched about 20 min in the beginning,I didn't like what I saw,I saw it coming so I stopped watching and returned to MxO pvp.
I don't even care If they pass to the next round anymore.Everyone is disheartened and angry today in my country,I will follow the progress of this event for the sakes of our fantasy league only.
